On Monday, April 24th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Illinois State University will host a Social Issues Fair co-sponsored by Illinois State University’s American Democracy Project and School of Communication to be held in the Circus Room, at the Bone Student Center. The Social Issues Fair allows students from Communication as Critical Inquiry (COM 110) to engage other Illinois State University students and the community about current political and social issues. Each student will be required to prepare a short briefing on his or her social issue. Prior to engaging attendees, each student will research his or her topic, providing an opportunity to hone valuable researching and critical thinking skills. The event is free and open to the public.
Both Illinois State’s American Democracy Project and School of Communication are dedicated to educating students for responsible civic and political engagement. Illinois State was selected along with 7 other campuses nationwide as a model political engagement institution by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) in 2006.
